Chief...
Last weekend I discovered that this beauty, a 1947 Chief, was up for sale not too far away - and to a very fair price indeed. Was I tempted? Oh, yes. Was my good friend Haze tempted? Oh, yes. Unfortunately/luckily (?) the beast was sold already on tuesday:
I really hope the new owner is a happy man...

Wintertimes...
Winter is here. There's lots of snow and salt on the roads. It's really no time for riding the old bike. So what can you do?... Here's a couple of minor occupations while waiting for the early spring.
Even there was no real troubles with "the uncle" last season, actually no troubles at all for over 3000 miles, things can always be a little better. The bushings in the main geararm was pretty worn and the gearchange therefore a little sluggish - and over time and kilometers it just starts to irritate you. So I've got new bushings in the main geararm and it's now ready to be mounted again. Looking forward to a more tight and responsive gearchange this coming season:
Even that it's freaky cold outside now, I actually still do remember very warm summerdays on the road. So I have cut up one of the old denimjackets for these hot days:
Wintertime is also reading time. Just refound this fine, old book from 1948 in the shelves:
A couple of pages from inside the "bible":
Now, lets have some springtime soon!...

Excelsior Super X...
Some years ago I had the great pleasure of riding a 1927 Super X for a couple of vintage runs. The bike used to stay in the family, but has now a days a new home. I hope the new owner is a happy man:
Now, that's a handlebar:
A long the road:
Sweet running and handling. A pure joy to ride!...

Tick-Tock O'clock...
Never got tired of looking at this Johns-Manville speedo on the old bike:
Probably never get tired of looking at this Corbin speedo on the new bike:

Down memory lane...
Well, we all have to start somewhere and we all have our own way down the road...
My motorcycle adventure startet around twenty years ago with a lovely Triumph Bonneville from 1970. Then came the strong Moto Guzzi 850T from 1974, then the unforgetable Norton Commando Mk3 from 1975. And then, then I finally entered the paraland of old american iron.
So here she is, my first Harley 45-inch/750cc from 1930. A true beauty, if you ask me, and always, always, so reliable. Never had a single breakdown through the years and through thousands and thousands of miles...
So one might ask, why did I let this beauty fly away?...
Well, because I got the chance to get this Harley VL 74-inch/1200cc 1931:
And after 3000 troublefree miles on the new bike, there is no regrets. This uncle is pulling like a train - and he seems as much reliable, as the good old one. At least so far...
